It's Saturday....in D.C!

Good evening beautiful people!

I am wrapping up my first Saturday in D.C. (well, without the folks at least) and I must say that I had a splendid day! My weekend began Friday after I got off work an hour early. My roommate, two girls from our hall, and myself all met up for an early dinner at this burger place called Good Stuff. It was pretty pricey, but the food was definitely on point and the conversation was even better. And Friday night, I finally jumped on the Scandal bandwagon thanks to my fellow intern Janae! I don't usually get into television shows just because I don't like to get hooked. With that being said, I think I can make an exception for this show. I spent Friday night and early Saturday morning watching season one. I'll be up to date in no time!

I left my apartment around 11 A.M. Saturday morning, took the Metro down to the Federal Triangle, and explored the city. It was HOT! I believe it even reached the 90s. Guess I'll be getting a little caramel tan after all. The first thing I wanted to do was go to the Newseum, a museum celebrating the evolution of the news and journalism. I would recommend the museum to any and everyone! Below are some of the few pictures I managed to snag as I ventured all six stories of the museum. I loved the exhibits on John F. Kennedy and Camelot; I've always been fascinated by Kennedy and his presidency. And there was a great exhibit depicting the evolution of newspapers, from the 1400s to the present! Another interesting exhibit spotlighted all of the Pulitzer Prize winning photographs. It was incredibly powerful; to say 'a picture says a thousand words' would be an understatement after you see these photographs. But my favorite exhibit would have to be the one honoring the victims of 9/11. Over 100 front pages from around the globe were depicting from that tragic day; the Newseum even had fragments found on Ground Zero. The exhibit also honored the journalists who lost their lives that day while serving the public. At the very top of the Newseum was the most breathtaking site of the city. Needless to say, I had a great start to my day.

Newspaper Covers from 9/11 in the Newseum
Words From One of My Favorite Supreme Court Justices, Thurgood Marshall
Fragments of the Berlin Wall in the Newseum
Fragments Remaining from 9/11 in the Newseum
More bits and fragments from 9/11 in the Newseum
My view from the top of the Newseum. Breathtaking!

My day only got better when I finally met up with my fellow UGA Honors kid and greatest friend ever, Jackson (let's see if he reads this!). We walked over to visit the National Gallery of Art. Afterwards, we checked out the foodtruck scene by the National Mall. Have I mentioned that the food is crazy expensive here? But anyways, we got some frozen yogurt and walked on the Mall lawn for a little while before parting ways. By that time, I was worn out from the heat! I got back to my apartment around 5:30 P.M., took a shower, and watched a couple more episodes of Scandal. Now, I just sitting back and watching the Heat/Pacers game in peace! I got the Heat tonight; I think the momentum is on their side and Lebron and Co. will take care of business in Indy. So, Spurs vs. Heat. Gee, sounds interesting (insert sarcasm). But anyways, y'all take care!

Oh and remember, if y'all have any questions just shoot me an email. It can be about anything; my internship, where I'm living, what D.C. is like, etc. I really want to share my experience and help other people who want to do the same thing!
