The Young & The Restless

As far as weekends go, this past one certainly has to be near or at the top of the list! They say that if you're bored in D.C., it's your own fault. And now, I can definitely see why. There's just too much to do to be bored! And this weekend has been nothing short of exciting and fast-paced. I'll give y'all a brief day-by-day summary of my epic weekend:

  • Friday was somewhat of a bitter-sweet day. Chinasa, one of the interns in my office, said her goodbyes as Friday was her last day of interning in Congressman Barrow's office. Fortunately, she'll still be living in D.C. and hopefully working somewhere else on the Hill so it wasn't a complete goodbye. But still, she's become a great friend and I'm sad to see her leave our office. After work, a bunch of the UGA Dawgs in D.C. tried to coordinate dinner. Even though it didn't really work out, I did FINALLY get to see my friend Femi and meet some of his Institute brothers at dinner. We went to a place called Burger Tap & Shake. I wouldn't say it was amazing, but it was definitely tasty and not too expensive (which is always a win in D.C.). Afterwards, I met up with my friend Janae and her roommate Jordan and headed over to another George Washington building for a get-together I'll call it. We ended up playing spades and socializing for bit; it was a pretty good time!
Friday night lights! Southern girls taking over.
  • Saturday was CRAZY! And by crazy, I mean long and busy. I managed to get a few extra hours of sleep and woke up around 9:30 A.M. (I'm a morning person, if you didn't already know!). Eventually, I left my apartment and took the metro downtown where a lot of the clothing stores are. Of course, I had to pay Forever 21 a visit. After browsing through all three of its levels, I purchased a few items and made my way over to meet up with Janae and Jordan again. We all went down to Chinatown to go see The Purge. If you want my opinion, it wasn't worth the money. It was a little too predictable and the acting was horrible. But we still had a good time, even though the movie theater was a little on the crazy side to put it politely. Afterwards, we ate dinner at a place called The Green Turtle. The food was pretty good, and we had a pretty cute waiter so I'd say it was a good find! After roaming Chinatown for a little while longer, we all parted ways and I headed back to Foggy Bottom to get ready for the REAL party later that night! The party was a lot of fun; we met a lot of other interns from all across the country. And, as if I already didn't know, I was told that there's nothing quite like a Georgia girl. What can we say? It was probably one of the better nights I've had in my entire life just because of the people there. We all have similar interests and goals, but we all know how to have fun as well. Perfect combination.
The place we ate for dinner on Saturday night in Chinatown!
Awww, ain't she cute?! (And check the cute waiter creeping in the back)
Saturday nights in D.C! We had such a good time!
  • And finally, Sunday. I went to sleep really late the night before, so I woke up at 10:30 A.M. which is super late for me. At noon, I met up with a friend and went to explore Georgetown together. Can I just say that I have found my future home? Honestly, I think I know what true love looks like now! Georgetown is absolutely gorgeous and so different from the rest of D.C. It's a pretty affluent area; stores like Barneys, BCBG, and Michael Kors are just some of the top-notch places in Georgetown. Past residents include people such as the Kennedys; the Clintons also own a home in Georgetown. We had lunch at this really neat place called Dean & Deluca; if it wasn't so windy, we would have taken our lunch down to the waterfront. Afterwards, we headed toward the world famous Georgetown Cupcakes. The line was crazy long, but it was SO worth the wait! Hands down, that strawberry cupcake was the best cupcake I have ever had. If you ever go to D.C., you HAVE to go to Georgetown Cupcakes. Oh, and I must give a shout-out to the man who paid for my cupcake. He was in front of us in line; after we struck a little conversation, I learned that he was from Georgia as well and he worked in the Pentagon. When it was my turn to pay, he jumped in front of me and pulled out his card. It was incredibly nice of him, especially considering we had just met thirty minutes before. Now THAT'S a true southern gentleman! After that delicious treat, we walked around for a little bit and explored some of the Georgetown neighborhoods. I think I may have even found my future home!
This painting I saw in Georgetown had me rolling! Gotta love those Democrats! (Includes Obama, Clinton, Kennedy, Johnson, FDR, Truman, Wilson, Carter and Jackson)
And the Republicans too! (Includes George H. and W. Bush, Nixon, Roosevelt, Reagan, Ford, Lincoln, and Eisenhower)
The place we ate lunch in Georgetown on Sunday! Very fresh and tasty.
Kind of hard to see, but the line for Georgetown Cupcakes was crazy!

Need I say anything here? #completeandutterbliss
One for me and one for my roommate! Hands down, the best cupcake I've ever had.

So that was my weekend in a nutshell! But of course, I could have forgotten something; after all, it really was nonstop and busy. But I had such a great time. I'm so glad that I've gotten so close to so many of my fellow interns. I can honestly say that in the two weeks I've been here, I've made some great friends. But now, it's finally time to slow down and relax. Especially since tomorrow the 9 to 6 grind starts again. I'll be watching the Finals from the comfort of my own couch tonight. Brandon--another intern and one of the many people I met this weekend-- and I have a little bet going on so I'm going to need the SPURS to take this 2-0 lead. The Spurs didn't play all that well in Game One, so I think Pop will have his boys focused and ready. If the Spurs handle the ball as well as they did in Game One (I think they had maybe four of five turnovers), it'll be tough for the Heat to beat them. I'm always a little uneasy when I pick against LeBron, though. It should be a good game. But the Spurs need to win or else my pride will be too hurt! But I hope y'all enjoy the game, and have a great night.
