Greater Things Are Still To Be Done In This City

Once again, I had another fantastic day in D.C. I woke up relatively early and caught up on a couple of episodes of Scandal. Seriously, where was I all last year? This show is fantastic (albeit a little unrealistic). I don't like to commit myself to too many television shows, but I believe I can make an exception when it comes to this one. Looks like Scandalous Thursdays are officially apart of my schedule!

Anyways, around noon, I met up with my fellow Rep. John Barrow intern and friend Janae--who attends Georgia Southern-- as well as three other interns from GSU (Xavier, Kandyce, and Nadia). Why did we all meet up? It was all thanks to a brilliant idea by Janae. Recognizing that we as interns live in a city filled with poverty, she asked all of us to donate $10 each to buy $1.00 McDonald's cheeseburgers to distribute amongst the homeless in D.C. I thought it was a great idea! So together, the five of us bought approximately 50 cheeseburgers and walked the streets of D.C. to give them to those who desperately needed a meal. It was a great way to give back to the D.C. community--a community and city I am growing to love. Plus, we all had an amazing time! Afterwards, we had lunch at this fantastic Mexican restaurant in Columbia Heights. Guess I know who I'll be hanging with when I make that trip down to Statesboro later this year!

The Forever 21 in Chinatown! Three stories! #heaven
Yes, THIS is what 50 McDonald's cheeseburgers looks like.
Me and my fellow GSU interns (minus Xavier) giving back to the D.C community!

I got back to my room around 6:30 P.M. just in time before the massive thunderstorms hit. Seriously, it was a little scary up here for a good little while. After the storms subsided, I had to sneak in a view more episodes of my new favorite show. People keep asking me what I think and who's my favorite character and so on, so forth. Personally, if a guy like Fitz were to ever be President of the United States, I would be a little afraid. Actually, I would be terrified! And a lot of people don't like Mellie but I actually sympathize with her. I mean, her husband is having an affair with another woman and she's forced to smile and act as the perfect trophy wife as if everything is okay. She is a successful and intelligent woman in her own right and she shouldn't have to diminish herself in the eyes of Americans just so her husband looks good. But I guess that's a sacrifice you make when your the First Lady--definitely not a sacrifice I would be so willing to make. Just my opinion! Maybe the more I watch, the more my opinion will change.

Tomorrow should be a great day at work! It's the first day I'll be interning while Congress is in session. That means I'll be roaming the halls with the likes of several established congressmen and congresswomen. Plus, I will hopefully be attending my first congressional hearing. So y'all be sure to check out C-SPAN and look for your girl. As for the rest of tonight, it's time to get started on my summer reading list. I have the names of 10 books that I want to finish by the end of the summer. First up is The Rehnquist Choice; it's a book that walks us through President Nixon's mindset when he first appointed William Rehnquist to the Supreme Court. Call me nerdy, I don't care, but I have been wanting to read this book forever and I finally have time! So peace and blessings, y'all.

Oh, and thank you to everyone who has supported me by reading this blog! It truly means a lot.

Never did take a picture of my Metro card! #justcause
